Cherenkov and scintillation separation in water-based liquid scintillator using an LAPPDTM

چکیده

This manuscript describes measurements of water-based liquid scintillators (WbLS), demonstrating separation the Cherenkov and scintillation components using fast timing response a Large Area Picosecond Photodector (LAPPD). Additionally, time profiles three WbLS mixtures, defined by relative fractions scintillating compound, are characterized, with improved sensitivity to scintillator rise-time. The were made both an LAPPD conventional photomultiplier tube (PMT). All samples measured effective resolution O(100 ps), which allows for light (henceforth C/S separation) selecting on arrival photons alone. purity selected is greater than 60% in all cases, 80% achieved sample containing 1% scintillator. first demonstration power synthesizing low yield scintillators, canonical example, photodetectors, LAPPDs emerging leader, has direct implication future mid- large-scale detectors, such as Theia, ANNIE, AIT/NEO.

Rapid method for determination of 90Sr in seawater by liquid scintillation counting with an extractive scintillator.

A rapid determination method of 90Sr is developed for the monitoring of seawater around the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP). Three ideas of chemical separation and measurements to accelerate 90Sr analysis are investigated. Strontium is co-precipitated in a two-step procedure with hydroxyapatite after the removal of magnesium phosphate in the presence of citric acid. The purificati...

An investigation of using hump in the Cherenkov photon lateral distribution for Gamma-Hadron separation

Simulation of gamma and hadron showers in the energy range 100GeV- 25TeV has been carried out. For a big ideal Cherenkov light array, characteristics of lateral distribution of Cherenkov photon density have been studied. Results from this ideal detector are compared with those simulated for a real TUNKA- like array to investigate experimental potential of using existence of a hump in lateral di...

Supported Liquid Membrane in Metal Ion Separation: An Overview

Using liquid membrane and, in particular, supported liquid membrane (SLM) is a novel method of separation in comparison to other methods such as adsorption, extraction and ion exchange. SLM is a combination of simultaneous extraction and disposal whose high efciency and capability is proven by many studies. So far, many researchers have utilized SLM in various scientifc...

Simultaneous determination of radium and uranium activities in natural water samples using liquid scintillation counting

The determination of radium and/or uranium concentrations in natural waters is useful in a wide range of environmental studies. In this work, a low-background liquid scintillation system (Wallac, Quantulus 1220) was used to determine simultaneously 226Ra and uranium (total) activities in natural water samples. Sample preparation involved filtration and 1 : 10 concentration by evaporation. Then,...
